Chieftains come up just short

The Dowagiac girls’ basketball team remained winless Tuesday night following its 41-35 Wolverine Conference loss to visiting Plainwell.

The Chieftains led 9-8 after one quarter, but were outscored 9-4 in the second period and trailed 17-13 at halftime.

The Trojans increased their advantage to 30-24 by the end of the third quarter and held the game six-point advantage as both teams scored 11 points in the final eight minutes.

Correshia Rodgers scored 12 points to lead the Chieftains, who also got nine points from Kristyn Turner and six points from Carly Polomcak.

Sarah Morell led all scorers with 14 points for Plainwell. No other Trojan reached double figures.

Dowagiac is back in action Friday night as it hosts Michigan Lutheran in a non-conference contest.
