The Ring Larnder seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball teams got back on the winning track Monday night against Berrien Springs.

The eighth grade Vikings snapped a two-game losing streak with a 37-20 win over Berrien Springs.

Gavin Rasler led eight different Lardner players with 14 points and seven rebounds. Joe Avance finished with four points, four steals, four rebounds and four assists. Tim McCaffrey added five points with Derek Brown and Tyler Phillips chipping in with four points each.

Zach Plummer had five rebounds and Jacob Ganus two assists.

“Before the game tonight the kids were asked to do a better job of sharing the basketball,” Niles coach Mike Gallor said. “The last couple of games we have looked like a selfish basketball team at times, but tonight the kids did a wonderful job of moving the ball and getting the ball to the open areas of the Berrien Springs zone.

“Joe Avance played his best game of the season tonight. Joe is learning that he can impact the game with his defense and passing as much as he can with his scoring, and that was the difference tonight.”

The Vikings, who will travel to Buchanan Wednesday night, are now 6-3.

Seventh grade

The Ring Lardner seventh grade rebounded from its first loss of the season to edge Berrien Springs 28-22.

Alex Harpenau led the Vikings with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Jasper had four points, while Dustin Anders grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists.

Ring Lardner is now 7-1 on the year.
