What started as a challenge between two pharmacy techs at Rite Aid, 4401 in Dowagiac, in the spring of 2010 soon became a team effort.
The challenge was to grow their hair out long enough to donate to an organization that makes wigs for children with hair loss (usually due to illness).
Soon nearly all the ladies in the pharmacy and the daughter of one of the techs, as well as a tech from a nearby store in Cassopolis and the store manager of the Niles Rite Aid were on board to donate.
The original goal was to be able to have their hair at 10 inches by spring 2011.
That proved harder than anticipated. With regular measuring to see how close they were it seemed to take forever.
One by one they all reached their goal and throughout out the spring and into fall they all chopped off their ponytails. All agree it was a fun challenge for a worthy cause, so it may become an annual project.
