Beware of scam

A scam targeting grandparents has been reported in Michiana, Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Chief Kenneth Wray said.
According to Wray, a local woman reported that she received a phone call in the evening from a caller who said he was her grandson, and sounded like him. The caller said he was in jail and needed $3,000 wired to him immediately.
The victim made arrangements to wire him money. She then received a call from the person who claimed to be her grandson telling her not to tell anyone about the arrangement.
The victim received another call shortly afterward from the caller in which he said he needed $2,000. The victim had sent $6,000 and borrowed the money to send to the Dominican Republic.
Wray advises that the callers in these cases often tell the victims not to call their parents or tell anyone; call anyway and check on the facts before sending money. Most jails don’t have a way of receiving money via wire or internet; jails take cash.
