‘Trick-or-treat’ for charity

Photo provided Niles High School students carry loads of food donations from their door-to-door collection drive.

While others were trick or treating for yummy treats, Niles High School SADD and Key Club joined to help the Salvation Army feed families in the community.
During trick-or-treating, members from both clubs went door-to-door asking for donations of food instead of candy. They went to a few neighborhoods in Niles and collected as much as they could to help restock the shelves.
The students hope to make this an annual event and expand to more neighborhoods throughout the area. Students were excited to help and many community members are happy to give. Especially in this time of need, the community is pulling together to help those that need it the most, students said.
The NHS Student Council is planning a school-wide food drive Nov. 14-18.
If parents would like to bring in donations during parent-teacher conferences next week, they will have areas for drop-off.
If community members would like to get involved, drop off the food and they’ll add it to their collection to give to the Salvation Army.
