Leader Publications has hired an assistant editor — an additional position — and a new reporter.

Kim Wynn

In her 27 years working for newspapers Kim Wynn has seen a lot of changes in the field of journalism.
And despite the industry’s challenges, she has stuck with it out of her love for informing the public.
“No matter how long you’ve been doing it or how jaded you might get in the newspaper business, the bottom line is that you’re not just selling a product,” she said.
“We’re selling the American way of life. Without the fourth estate, you wouldn’t have a real democracy.”
Wynn will bring her experience to Leader Publications as the assistant editor, a new position. Her first day was Monday.
Wynn, a University of New York at Brockport alumna, has worked for The Grand Rapids Press and, most recently, The Herald-Palladium in St. Joseph. She began her career as a reporter before shifting to the copy desk.
A St. Joseph resident, Wynn is excited to get to know the community.
“I’m really looking forward to exploring a new area,” she said. “I did come down here last year for the (Hunter) Ice Festival, which was really quite fun.”
Wynn has two sons who live in Grand Rapids.

Craig Haupert

Craig Haupert knows the value of strong community journalism.
With six years of experience in newspapers, Haupert has joined the Leader Publications staff as a reporter.
His first day was Monday, and he will cover the education, entertainment and cops beats.
“I like that it forces you to be a part of the community and get out there,” Haupert said about his experience in journalism. “When you finish a story, it’s a good feeling. You can help people understand something a little bit better.”
Haupert, a University of Indianapolis grad, most recently worked for the News-Sun in Kendallville, Ind., where he covered LaGrange County.
He also covered sports for the Minot Daily News in North Dakota.
A self-professed sports talk radio junky, Haupert is an Indianapolis Colts fan but admitted that now that he is working in Michigan the Lions are his “adopted team this year.”
He also enjoys weightlifting, swimming, playing video games and traveling.
Haupert lives in South Bend with his wife.
