Pickup burns in Eau Claire

Troopers from the Michigan State Police are investigating a one-vehicle crash in Eau Claire.
The driver, a 65-year-old Bridgman resident, was transporting several burn barrels from his residence to a work.
While traveling eastbound on Main Street, the bed of the pickup was engulfed in flames. The victim drove the vehicle for several blocks before the truck’s cab ignited.
The victim was unable to control the pickup at that time and crashed into two parked vehicles on First Street. Workers in the area rushed to the victim’s aid and were assisted him from the vehicle. The victim sustained burns over 80 percent of his body. He was transported to the Bronson hospital Trauma Care Burn Unit by Air Care helicopter.
The name of the victim was not released.
Troopers from detachments in New Buffalo, Watervilet and Benton Harbor were assisted at the scene by Berrien Springs Oronoco Police Department, Berrien County Sheriff Department, Eau Claire Fire Department and Berrien Springs Fire Department.
