Motorist drives into canal

A newspaper delivery person fell asleep at the wheel and drove into the Eagle Lake canal Thursday, Sept. 29.
Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Chief Kenneth Wray reports that at approximately 5:35 a.m., Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg police officers were dispatched to Park Shore Drive near Eagle Lake Road for a vehicle that had driven off the end of the roadway into the canal. Upon arrival, officers observed a Toyota Highlander in the middle of the canal.
Officers made contact with the driver, Timothy Schrock, 41, of Edwardsburg, who advised that he fell asleep while delivering newspapers and ran off the end of the road into the canal.
No other passengers were inside the vehicle.
The driver was not injured.
RB Towing arrived and pulled the vehicle out of the canal.
No citations were issued. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash. The driver was also wearing his seat belt.
