Looking for a small-town, family-owned bakery? Look no further than Vandalia.
Farm House Bakery, 59573 White Temple Rd., is owned by Dawn and Virgil Stutzman and has been in business for nine years. The Stutzmans have 11 children, five of whom work part-time at the bakery.
Farm House Bakery recently expanded, adding an indoor restaurant area, the new Meat and Cheese Barn as well as renovating the bakery. The new dining area can accommodate 70 to 80 people, which will make room for more customers.
“We needed to expand,” said Dawn. “We didn’t have enough room. People would leave because we were too crowded. It was time to do something.”
The Stutzmans are introducing a new breakfast buffet in their dining room. Typically, they serve to order for breakfast and lunch meals, but they wanted to try something different.
“We tried a buffet on New Year’s and it went really well,” Dawn said. “We are thinking about making it a weekly buffet.”
Farm House Bakery is unique in that it uses only its own products. Absolutely nothing is delivered from another location. It uses fresh, homemade baked goods with the least amount of artificial flavors and preservatives as possible.
“We offer quality ingredients,” Dawn said.
Farm House Bakery also offers an all-natural Meat and Cheese Barn just outside the bakery. All of the products sold there are local. The yogurt and cheese is made from milk made by the animals on the Stutzmans’ farm.
The meat was raised without hormones and chemicals to stimulate growth. The pork, chicken and beef are products of all-natural animals.
Farm House Bakery not only has indoor and outdoor seating for its dine-in restaurant, but it also offers catering services. It caters the full breakfast or lunch menu, with daily specials. A variety of meals to choose from include boxed lunches, hot buffets, sandwich buffets, salad buffets and deli buffets.
It also offers gift baskets, which are handmade for any occasion. Baskets can vary to include anything from baked goods to lotions and soaps. Each basket is custom-made to the specifications of the buyer and is shipped or delivered in shrink wrap to preserve the artistic arrangements.
Farm House Bakery is home to many activities outside of the bakery. It offers petting zoos several times each year, horse-drawn wagon rides, plow days and hayrides when the weather cooperates. It even offers campfire parties, including roasting hot dogs, s’mores and more.

Farm House Bakery is open year-round, Tuesdays through Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
