Firefighters summoned to couch blaze on Lyle

At 9:32 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, Dowagiac Public Safety Fire/Rescue Division responded to 56631 Lyle Drive for a report of hallway smoke alarm.

When fire crews arrived on scene, no fire or smoke was visible from the exterior of the home.

Further investigation found that a fire was occurring in the home, Capt. Mike Mattix reported Wednesday.

Fire crews forced entry into the home and found the fire in the living room couch.

Fire crews confined the fire to the living room area of the home, but heat and smoke damage were found throughout the home.

The home owner was not home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

DPS was asisted on scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Pride Care EMS and Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division.

Cause of the fire remained under investigation Sept. 21.
