The Cass County Road Commission will close Old 205 at the Michigan state line for four days the second week in September for paving.
Old 205, known formerly as MI 205, is an all-season primary road that connects IN 19 (Cassopolis St.) in Indiana with U.S. 12 in Michigan.
Road crews will close the 1.7-mile stretch of Old 205 between the state line and Five Points from Monday, Sept. 12 through Thursday, Sept. 15.
The official detour will be as follows:
• Northbound traffic from Cassopolis St. will be detoured east on County Rd. 6, just south of the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90) to County Rd. 17, then north on County Rd. 17 to MI 217 to U.S. 12, then east toward Old 205. A reverse route will apply to southbound traffic from U.S. 12
• Vehicles traveling east on Redfield St., which connects with Old 205 at Cassopolis Rd. in Michigan, will be detoured north onto Cassopolis to U.S. 12 and then east to MI 217.
• The detour onto MI 217 also will be in place for vehicles eastbound on U.S. 12 that intend to use Old 205 to travel south into Indiana.
• The road is being paved with asphalt modified with recycled passenger tires. The project is made possible through the Scrap Tire Market Development Grants Program of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment. The total cost is $362,000, of which the road commission will be reimbursed for 50 percent, or $181,000.
