Niles Garden Club accepting nominations for award

The Niles Garden Club will be giving out Green Thumb Awards to Niles area gardens. These will be based on curb appeal. They will be accepting nominations from the public and from other garden club members.
Nominate a garden (as seen from the road) to receive this award. Call Elva Nugent at 683-6015 or drop a note to P.O. Box 381 with the nomination and the address of the person or business nominated. Garden owners may nominated their own gardens; however, garden club members are not eligible for the award.
They will be awarding one or two Green Thumb Awards this fall and plan on awarding two each month starting in May 2012 through October 2012. This is their way of recognizing gardens beautifying the Niles area.
The Niles Garden Club’s next meeting will be Sept. 13 at the Niles Law Enforcement complex on the corner for Silverbrook Avenue and 17th Street, Niles. The program will be “Confronting the Asian Carp Invasion-Steps being taken to protect our waters.” Refreshment will be served at 12:30 p.m. with the program to follow at 1 p.m. The public is invited. For more information, call Cathy Mauthe at (269) 756-3169.
