The Berrien County Fall Tire Recycling Collection will take place at Benton Township Road Commission, 2860 East Napier Ave., Benton Harbor, and Bakertown Road Commission, 1940 Bakertown Rd., Buchanan. Tires will be accepted Thursday, Sept. 8 from 3 to 7 p.m. at each location. On Friday, Sept. 9, tires will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at each location.
The county tire recycling collection is open to Berrien County residents only (no businesses).
The following recycling fee will be charged and is due at the event by cash or check (written to Berrien County): $1 per passenger tire; $2 if still on rim; $5 for semi-truck tires; and $10 for oversize and loader tires. The fees will partially off-set collection, transportation and processing costs, with the remainder paid for by the County Landfill Use Fund.
“Recycling tires through the county collection is a low-cost, environmentally friendly way to get rid of tires and keep them from littering our natural areas,” said Jill Adams, Berrien County environmental specialist.
The tires are recycled by Deerpath Recyclers in Dowagiac.
