Recycling drives scheduled

Non-profits GateWay Services and Bridges to Digital Excellence are hosting a south county paper, cardboard and electronics recycling event in five Berrien County communities:
• Apple Valley, Berrien Springs, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday
• Save-A-Lot, Niles, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10
• Slumberland Furniture, Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24
• Lakeshore High School, Lincoln Township, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8
• New Buffalo, site to be determined, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 22
The following items will be accepted: cardboard, paper, three-ring binders, magazines, books, clear plastic, file folders, newspaper, phone books, electronics, televisions, computers, computer monitors, microwaves, toasters, phones and DVD players. All electronics with a cord, except refrigerators and air conditioners, will be accepted.
Donating items for the drive will help provide work and work experience for a wide array of local residents with barriers to employment.
“This is a great opportunity for people to clear out those boxes of files, bills or taxes that are sitting in everyone’s basement or garage,” said Paul Eagle, GateWay business development manager.
GateWay is providing free document shredding upon request.
