First Presbyterian Church of 115 West Front St., Buchanan is busy collecting school supplies for children in need this year.
This is a Buchanan Ministerial Alliance project for the children in the Buchanan area with Faith Victory Church on North Main Street, Buchanan spearheading the effort. First Presbyterian will be collecting supplies for the backpacks through Aug. 21 in baskets at the front of the sanctuary.  Collection points around town include United Federal Credit Union, Edward Jones and Redbud Insurance in Buchanan.
The free backpacks stuffed with school supplies will be handed out Aug. 28 at the Ministerial Alliance’s Annual Faith and Family Day at the Buchanan Commons from 2 to 7 p.m. Everyone must call 695-1091 to register their children. No backpacks will be available to those who do not pre-register.
School supplies needed include: crayons, colored pencils, pencils, pens, erasable markers, glue sticks, regular school glue (bottles), rulers, protractors, loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks, pencil boxes, two-pocket folders, school safety scissors, erasers, small bottles of hand sanitizer, small packages of tissue and any other supplies.
