Bertrand board planning to launch township website

One of newly sworn-in Bertrand Township Supervisor Scott Bonner’s goals is to launch a township website.
The township board already has a head start on those plans after it approved a resolution in May to pursue setting up a site.
“We’ve never had one before, so we’re starting from scratch,” said Township Clerk Jane Lano. “We got a couple price quotes and we’re looking into the option of doing it ourselves to lower the costs.”
Lano said the board wants to be able to post the townships code of ordinances, permit applications, agendas, minutes and information about events in the area.
Bonner, who won last week’s special election, said his main goal for the township is to improve communication. He said a website and township newsletter would go a long way in opening the lines of communication between township officials and residents.
“There was a lack of communication to the people (under the previous administration),” Bonner said in an interview in July. “I want to be able to talk openly with board members and people in the township.”
Lano said a website has been a topic of discussion among board members for several years, but “reluctance of the former supervisor” kept it from coming to fruition.
Bertrand Township has a population of 2,657 and is one of the only municipalities in the coverage area without a website.
