At its meeting on July 17, the Cassopolis Area Utilities Authority board voted to accept the bid submitted by Mead and White Electric Inc. in the amount of $202,600 to supply and install backup generators at eleven lift stations in the Diamond Lake sewer system.

The Bridgman firm’s bid was the lowest of 10 bids received.

An additional $34,000 will cover engineering and contingency costs.

According to CAUA Chairman Ron Francis, the money will come from a debt retirement fund that remained after the original Diamond Lake sewer bonds were retired last year.

The need for auxiliary power at the lift stations in the event of power outages has been heightened with the installation of a public water system around Diamond Lake.

This action should minimize the chance of sewage back-ups in individual residences.

Wightman and Associates Inc. will provide design and construction engineering.
