Fernwood recruiting volunteers

Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve will be hosting a volunteer recruitment event from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The recruitment event will double as a welcoming party for the new Volunteer Coordinator, Judi Jason.
More than 250 people volunteer at Fernwood, giving up thousands of hours of service. Jason previously volunteered at the front desk, but now she will organize the current and future volunteers.
Fernwood sits on 105 acres of cultivated and natural areas of land along the St. Joseph River. Miles of trails lay waiting to be explored while visitors may also enjoy an indoor art gallery, fern conservatory, nature center, cafe and gift shop.
During the recruitment event, staff members will answer questions, discuss opportunities, requirements of volunteers and benefits of donating time at Fernwood. Visitors will be given a tour and learn about each volunteer opportunity in order to find the correct position.
Current volunteers and those who are interested in becoming volunteers are welcome to attend the event. For those who are not yet volunteers but wish to attend, there is no obligation to join.
Volunteer opportunities include the Railway Garden; farmers’ market; Saturday Member Morning greeter; front desk and reception area weekend support; nature center; gardens and grounds; and many other volunteer positions.
After the Event, there will be a WAUS Second Sunday concert at 4 p.m., with Carla Trynchuk performing on the violin.
Free admission to both the recruiting event and the Second Sunday concert.
