Police investigate two home invasions over weekend in Dowagiac

Dowagiac Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson reported that the Dowagiac Police Department is investigating two home invasions that occurred over the weekend in the city.

Police were dispatched to a residence on Helena Street early Friday morning, June 24, at approximately 12:05 a.m.

Officers made contact with a resident who advised that they were awakened by a noise at the residence. Upon checking, the victim located a male subject in the residence and confronted him.

The suspect grabbed the victim, however, fled when the victim started to yell at the suspect. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.

Police were also called to a residence on N. Lowe Street at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday, June 24.

A victim at that residence advised that upon waking up noticing the back door to the residence had been kicked in and some property was missing.

Police continue to investigate. It is not clear if these incidents are related.
