Dr. Smiy, Torres take on Wierman practice July 1

Beginning July 1, Alan Smiy, MD, family practitioner, and Kim M. Torres, MSN, FNP-BC, CNS, CCRN, will take responsibility over Dr. James Wierman’s practice at 400 W. Division St.

After 33 years of service, Dr. Wierman will retire from providing care at this practice on June 30.
Dr. Smiy has been seeing patients at the Donald Lyons Health Center, 520 Main St., since 2007.
He completed his clinical training at the Medical College of Wisconsin and University of Wisconsin Medical Schools.
Dr. Smiy is also a graduate of Michigan State University’s Family Medicine Residency Program. A diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, he is a member of the Michigan State Medical Society, Berrien County Medical Society, American Academy of Family Practice and American Medical Association.
Torres has worked with Dr. Wierman in the W. Division practice since 2009.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University and her Master of Science in Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), from Valparaiso University.
Following her MSN, she completed the requirements for Valparaiso’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Board-certified as a family nurse practitioner (FNP), Torres is also certified as a critical care registered nurse (CCRN).

Torres is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and American College of Nurse Practitioners.
Dr. Smiy will continue seeing patients on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesdays, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Torres will see patients on Mondays, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
