Boogie Woogie Babies is a member of the Michigan Council for the Humanities Touring Artist Roster and The Heartland Arts.

Hosted by Dowagiac Downtown Development Authority and underwritten by Huntington Bank, the 7:30 p.m. performance marks the first time for the Grand Rapids group to appear in Dowagiac, said Vickie Phillipson, program director of the Dowagiac DDA, who oversees the 12-week fine arts program.

She said this is also the fourth year for Huntington Bank to underwrite the $6,000 outdoor entertainment series, now in its 19th season.

Touring throughout the Midwest with their three shows, the group is comprised of vocalists Mary Rademacher, Barb Wisse and Carol Black, with Mark Kahny on keys.

“Get ready to jump, jive and wail with the Boogie Woogie Babies, who are known for their tight vocal harmonies, beautiful blend and entertaining shows,” Phillipson said. “Thursday’s audience will hear swing sounds of the World War II era in the style of the Andrews Sisters, along with music from some of the greatest female groups and female singers throughout pop history as they feature pieces from each of their top-three stage shows.”

Their 1940s Revue is a two-act theatrical performance of the 1940s, and includes harmonies and songs of the Andrews Sisters, historical trivia and audience participation.

Their Boogie Down Broadway show features entertaining songs and audience favorites from on and off Broadway, along with great historical information from Tin Pan Alley to present-day, delivered in the trademark Boogie Woogie Babies’ talent-busting style.

Boogie, Beehives and Beyond is their newest audience-pleaser that features songs and harmonies from great girl groups and girl singers throughout pop music history, including favorites from The McGuire Sisters, Carole King, The Cookies and The Chiffons.

One of west Michigan’s finest jazz vocalists, Rademacher has appeared overseas with the USO, in dozens of area theater productions and at area theaters.

She is a regional Star Search winner and a choreographer and performer. She performs throughout Michigan as a vocalist and has opened for Taylor Dayne and Bob Newhart.

In addition to her own band, The RadPack, Rademacher performs regularly with The Night Band and the Midtown Horns in clubs, casinos and for private or corporate events.

Both of her CDs, “Radhot” and “You Hit the Spot” have been released to critical acclaim.

Wisse performed her one-woman cabaret act “Laughing Matters” as part of Grand Rapids’ Circle Theatre 50th Anniversary Cabaret Series.

Her silky voice has been heard on stages throughout west Michigan and she was featured on Circle Theatre’s “Tapestry, The Music of Carole King” CD.

Wisse’s singing styles run the gamut from advertising jingles to vocal jazz, from opera to musicals and from ensembles to solos.

Her singing and studies have taken her to London and New York, but the musical theater community in Grand Rapids is where she got her start. Wisse is also a language and fine arts consultant for Grand Rapids Public Schools.

Accompanist Kahny is one of west Michigan’s finest keyboard and vocal talents in demand by vocalists and bands alike. Originally from Cincinnati, he studied classically at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, toured the country with the show band, Kops and Robbers, and is featured on many CDs, including Rademacher’s, “Edye Evans Hyde’s,” Boogie Woogie Babies and his own, “Universe of Two.”

Kahny regularly is a headliner with World Class Jazz tours, performing throughout northwest Michigan. He has worked with such celebrities as Red Buttons, Regis Philbin and Ray Charles.

Also appearing at the Beckwith Park Concert Series this season will be: The Mickeys, June 16; Otsego Jazz Ensemble and vocalist Ian Brown, June 23; Schlitz Creek, June 30; Los Bandits, July 7; Out of Favor Boys, July 14; Lake Effect Jazz Big Band, July 21; Kalamazoo Avenue Band, July 28; 5 O’Clock Somewhere, Aug. 4 and Four Spacious Guys, Aug. 11.
