At the League of Women Voters of Michigan biennial convention May 20-22 in Traverse City, Susan Gilbert was awarded the League’s “Leadership in Civic Empowerment Award.”

The award was in recognition of her work as president of the League of Women Voters of Berrien and Cass Counties in offering citizens educational meetings and forums on issues of importance. Noted particularly was her League’s voter service work during the 2008 election period (an effort funded in part by a grant from the Pokagon Fund).

At the same convention, Gilbert was elected to the board of directors of the League of Women Voters of Michigan. Other delegates to the convention were Elizabeth Ennis and Diane DeWitt, the current co-presidents of LWVBCC, Joe Naines and Geoff Gilbert.

The League of Women Voters of Berrien and Cass Counties will hold its annual meeting and dinner Tuesday, June 21 at Chikaming Country Club in Lakeside. The speaker will be Berrien County Treasurer Bret Witkowski, also a League member.
