An array of tablets and capsules varying in potency were collected in Cass County on Saturday.

Vitamins to OxyCotin were dropped at sites hosted by C.A.S.S. Coalition and local law enforcement.

“We collected 88 pounds of medications and supplements” reported E.J. McAndrew, coordinator of C.A.S.S. Coalition. “We are very pleased with the results given this is our first time we have participated.”

“We had one women bring unused medications from the 1980s,” reported Cass County Deputy Devon Sheppard. “Her husband had died of cancer and she did not know what to with the unused medication and just hung on to it.”

National Institute of Drug Abuse reports that one third of teens say prescription drugs can be acquired from friends or classmates, who in turn get them from home.

Disposal of potentially dangerous unused and unwanted prescription drugs helps keep them from being abused or harming the environment. Additional information regarding prescription or over the counter drug abuse can be found at www.facebook.com/CASS.Community.
