Edith Tyler, 78 / March 16, 1933 — April 17, 2011

Edith Naomi (Cabana) Tyler, 78, of Cassopolis gave one “last call” at 2:05 a.m. and passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born March 16, 1933 in Cassopolis to the late Herbert and Leila (Lobaugh) Cabana.

She married Robert Louis Tyler on June 17, 1951.

Edith was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW No. 1855 in Dowagiac. She enjoyed many years of league bowing, owned and operated a ceramics shop and enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage.

She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; two brothers, Leland Cabana and Herbert Cabana, Jr.; three sisters, Phyllis Cabana, Lorna Waldo and Doris Rieck and one brother-in-law, Richard Waldo.

Edith is survived by four children, Connie (Ken) Wessell of Free Soil, Karen (Keith) Hartsell of Cassopolis, Michael (Barbara) Tyler of Fountain, and Sheila (Keith Merritt) Cheney of Elkhart; a sister-in-law, Beverly Van Warmer of Dowagiac; eight grandchildren, Kenneth (Beki Seltzer) Wessell, Jr. of Free Soil, Heath (Tammy Mittemiller) Wessell of Free Soil, Kurt (Sara) Hartsell of Cassopolis, Rebecca (Dave Skorka) Tyler-Cook of Manistee, Adrian (Crystal Astrauskas) Tyler of Ludington, Charles Cheney of Dowagiac, Brian (Lisa Conley) Cheney of Elkhart and Heather (Jim) Madden of Alsip, Ill.; two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends gathered Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from noon until the service at 1 p.m. at Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.

Interment followed in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Sumnerville.

Edward Hertz, Jr., 81 / Laura Hertz, 88

Graveside services for Edward J. Hertz, 81, and his wife, Laura Louise Hertz, 88, will be Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Plum Grove Cemetery in Union.

Officiating will be the Rev. Kerry Robinson of Asera-Case Hospice.

The U.S. Marines Honor Guard will play “Taps” and fold the flag for Ed.

Edward and Laura were from Edwardsburg and Union. Edward died Nov. 8, 2006 and Laura died Dec. 9, 2010. Their cremains will be together in Plum Grove Cemetery.
