Saturday egg hunt a go, rain, sleet or snow!

Unless the weather begins to shape up, the only true sign of spring may be the rainbow of 5,000 brightly-colored Easter eggs that await children this Saturday in downtown  Dowagiac.

Perhaps southwestern Michigan is playing a late April Fool’s Day joke on organizers of this community’s Easter Eggstravaganza.

Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, which is the host of the 10th annual springtime event, has always planned ahead for a raindate, just in case inclement weather postpones the event to the following Saturday, as occurred last weekend. While the rain date is intended to be a second opportunity for organizers to hold the event, this year it’s the weatherman, who may think he has the upper hand, with unseasonably-cold temperatures and rain still lurking in his forecast.

Yet an anxious event Chairman Trish Brazo announced Wednesday, “Regardless of rain, sleet or snow, the eggs are a go this Saturday!”
