The Cass County Goat Expo 2011 will be held Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cass County Fairgrounds in Cassopolis.

All are welcome to attend a free day of educational opportunities, including demonstrations, vendor booths, literature and Youth Market and Youth Showmanship shows.

Youth Market check-in and weigh-in are from 7 to 8:30 a.m.

The Youth/4-H Market Wether Show is at 9 a.m.

The Youth/4-H Showmanship Show is at 10 a.m. with judge Phillip Messer of Red Gate Farms in Indiana.

The Goat Roast Luncheon will be at noon, followed by goat demonstrations from 1 to 3 p.m. Demos include grooming, trimming, carting, pack goats and more.

This is one of eight shows in Michigan that youth can participate in to earn points with their market wethers and with showmanship, but the Cass Goat Expo will also be giving awards separately for the expo event.

The expo is open to Michigan youth ages 5-19 as of Jan. 1, 2011. Limit is two market wethers per youth. Showmanship is by choice and youth may bring a doe for this class.

All youth must be able to handle their own animal in the show ring; ring stewards will be on hand. No parents are allowed in the ring.

Vendors must supply their own table and chairs.

Donations for awards, demonstrators, speaker and vendors are sought for the show.
