Ouidabon N. “Weedie” Harwood, 84, of South Third Street in Niles, died at 1:48 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2011 at Silverbrook Manor in Niles following an extended illness.

Mrs. Harwood was born April 10, 1926 in Connersville, Ind. to Arthur and Olive (Stanton) Brown. She graduated from Niles High School with the Class of 1944 and lived most of her life in Niles. She retired after more than 10 years of service at Walmart in Niles.

Weedie was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles. She loved cooking and entertaining family and friends.

On Sept. 29, 1946 in South Bend, she married John E. “Jack” Harwood, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2006.

Mrs. Harwood is survived by her children, Rex E. (Bernadette) Harwood of Granger, Ind., Cary J. (Carol) Harwood of Avon Park, Fla. and Danita K. (Patrick) Slatton of Greencastle, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Gerald (Pearl Lee) Brown of Mattawan, Mich. and Darrell “Wayne” (Cheryl) Brown of Niles.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Virgil Brown, and a sister, Dorothy Brown.

Funeral services for Ouidabon N. Harwood will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Edward H. Slate of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
