Robin S. Smith, 80, of Coloma died early Monday, March 14, 2011 at Lakeland Medical Center in St Joseph.

Robin was born Sept. 16, 1930 to Karl and Evelyn (Simpson) Smith, being part of the fourth generation to grow up on Clover Hill Farm in Cassopolis.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Cassopolis and owner and operator of The Establishment restaurant in Benton Harbor from 1984 to 2003. Robin enjoyed fishing, traveling and stopping by casinos, in addition to spending time with his grandchildren, especially the youngest Dylan. He showed his love for them in writing and dedicating his life memoirs for them to cherish.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carol (Deming), whom he married Oct. 30, 1949 in Dowagiac; three sons, Michael (Beverly) Smith and Timothy (Jill) Smith both of Cassopolis, Daniel (Deborah) Smith of Benton Harbor, and a daughter Sally (Jamie) Stone of Coloma.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Zachary, Anton, and Nathan Smith, Melanie and Katie Smith, Lucas (Katrina) Smith, Jacob (Wendy) Smith, Dylan Stone; and three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Reagan, and Lucas Smith II.

In addition to his parents, Robin was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Smith and Kathryn Wagner.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Cassopolis or to the American Cancer Society.
