DUHS presenting ‘Wizard of Oz’

Dowagiac Union High School presents “The Wizard of Oz” Saturday, March 19, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at the middle school Performing Arts Center. Tickets cost $5.

Meredith Marrs, DMS healthy living teacher, directs a large cast that includes students from the high school, middle school and all four elementary buildings.

Samantha Hess stars as Dorothy Gale, the Kansas girl who inherits ruby slippers when her house falls on a wicked witch to the Munchkins’ delight.

Dorothy and her dog, Toto (Jessica Burns) follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City to see if the wizard can help her find her way home and friends she meets along the way, Scarecrow/Hunk (Ryan Bassett), a brain; Tin Man/Hickory (John Brosnan), a heart; and the Cowardly Lion (Cody Carpenter), courage.

With the help of Glinda the good witch (Kaye Swartz), they must get past the vengeful green-skinned Wicked Witch/Miss Gultch, Abby Schuur.
