BUCHANAN — The Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce honored the best of business at its annual dinner Thursday night at Orchard Hills Country Club. Tickets were sold out to the 2011 Salute to Business Awards, Chamber Executive Director Ron Sather said.

Taking home the coveted Business of the Year Award was Schilling’s Auto Wash; the award was accepted by Bill Schilling Jr., whose father owns the business.

Schilling’s Auto Wash relocated from Fenton, Mich. to Dowagiac in 1968; it opened a second location in Niles in 1987. A third location opened in South Bend in 1998.

The Industry of the Year Award recipient was Packard Industries, Inc. Accepting the award was Karen Mark.

Founded in 1966 by Ed Mark, Packard manufactures modular office systems, work stations and works closely with customers to modify office areas and systems.

Peg Williamson of Williamson Employment Service was named Woman of the Year.

She started her own staffing business in 1992, and expanded into Niles in 1997. Today, Williamson provides staffing alternatives, including direct hiring, contracting, temporary and payroll and screening services.

Man of the Year went to William Haslett of Haslett & Gaynor PC.

A Niles native who is very active in community organizations, Haslett set up an accounting business in the former Old Kent Bank Building on Main Street, and then moved to the 20 North Second St. location. He moved to the present location at the corner of Fifth Street and Broadway in 2007.

The Berrien County Civitan Club was awarded Service Club of the Year. President Elect Phyllis Davis of Buchanan and President Annie Chapman of Niles accepted the award.

Ninety-nine percent of the club’s activities take place in the Niles and Buchanan area. The group works to help mentally- and physically-impaired people, including at Camp Civitan in southwest Michigan.

Bill and Mary Kelly of Kelly Real Estate accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Hastings, Mich. natives and high school sweethearts, who are celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary this summer, are active in the community and have been involved in many businesses over the years, mostly recently owning Kelly Real Estate.
