Home burns at 513 Keene Ave.

Dowagiac Department of Public Safety reports that at approximately 2:14 Wednesday morning, the Fire/Rescue Division responded to a house fire at 513 Keene Ave.

The alarm was received at 2:14 a.m.

The first engine arrived on scene at 2:20 a.m. and reported a working fire with flames visible out several windows along the roof.

Capt. Guy H. Evans said the homeowners were home at the time of the fire but were able to exit the house with no injuries.

Smoke detectors inside the house activated.

It took fire crews until approximately 3 a.m. to declare the fire under control.

At one point, fire crews evacuated the house for safety concerns due to fire conditions.

City fire personnel were assisted on scene by an engine company from Wayne Township Fire Department and finally cleared the scene at approximately 5:20 a.m. Feb. 9.

Despite the heavy fire conditions and near-zero temperatures, there were no injuries reported from this incident.
