Lucile Root, 86, of Niles passed away at her home on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011.

Lucile was born on Jan. 5, 1925 to the late Arthur and Verna (Weston) Musser.  She was the fourth of nine children growing up in the Musser household.

After graduating from high school Lucile went on to attend Michigan State University. On March 18, 1942 she wed the love of her life, David J. Root, at a ceremony in Altus, Okla. Together they had two wonderful children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband David and siblings Roy, Alvin, Carl, Kenny, Raymond and Lilian Musser.

Lucile is survived by her son James (Judith Kuntz) Root of Northport, Mich.; daughter Nancy “Laine” Orand of Euless, Texas; three grandchildren, Jennifer Root of Kalamazoo, David Root of Northport, Clair (Steven) Valenti of San Diego, Calif., two great-grandchildren Stella and Lola and two sisters Dorothy Miles of West Jordan, Utah and Janet (Thomas) Sexton of Connersville, Ind.

A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. with funeral services to honor Lucile’s life beginning at 11 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made in Lucile’s name to Hospice at Home located at 4025 Health Park Lane; St. Joseph, MI 49085 or to the Niles Community Library located at 620 East Main Street; Niles, MI 49120.
