Vera Mae Glaze-Clark, born Feb. 15, 1928 in Holly Springs, Miss. was the second daughter born to the union of Henry and Ethel Lee (Hart) Wilson.

Her education began in Holly Springs at the Wesley Chapel School where she attended through the fifth grade and her education continued at Porter Elementary School in Memphis, Tenn.

When she was 12 years old, her family moved to Chicago, Ill. where she attended McCosh Elementary School. She eventually graduated from Englewood High School. Later she attended Southwestern Michigan College and earned an associate’s degree.

Vera was united in marriage to Leo Rycraw in 1948. She married Richard Glaze in 1957. In 1988 she married Verden Clark.

Her husbands preceded her in death.

Vera accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as a young woman at the Church of God in Chicago under the leadership of Pastor Willie E. Gordon. In 1962 she moved to Cassopolis and attended Coulter’s Chapel Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Ralph Pletcher. Vera began a successful adult foster care business in 1982 and continued to work in the health care profession until August. As her health failed, she moved to Jackson, Mich. to live with her daughter Dolletta and son-in-law Vincent Weatherspoon where she attended the Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Frank Hampton, Jr.

Vera was well-known for her apple pies, her cornbread dressing and many delectable dishes. She loved to sing and was a member of the Sacred Jewels singers that was first organized by Inez Gordon in Chicago.

Vera was always recognized as a very sweet and caring person who loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and many friends and acquaintances.

Vera leaves to cherish her memory, a loving sister, Bernice (Thomas) Wimberly, Elkhart; nine children, Leo (Roberta) Rycraw, Cincinnati, Ohio,  Philip Glaze, Elkhart, Ind.,  Tim Glaze, Las Vegas, Nev.,  Dolletta (Vincent) Weatherspoon, Jackson, Dorinda (Glaze) Cox, Jackson, Debra Glaze, Cassopolis, Deirdre (Nathaniel) Johnson, Oak Park, David (Marie) Glaze, Springfield, Ohio, and Stephen Glaze, Dallas, Texas; two stepdaughters, D’Andrea “Cookie” Hamn, Fort Washington, Md., and Deborah Marshall, Goose Creek, S.C.; 29 grandchildren; one grandson who proceeded her in death, Paul Alexander Glaze; five great-grandchildren; a very special goddaughter, Mary Young; a special godson, Christopher Anaele; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She will be deeply missed by all.

Family and friends will gather Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Coulter’s Chapel Church of God, 3176 Detroit Rd. (M-60), Niles.

She will also rest in state on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at the church from 11 a.m. until time of her Homegoing Celebration at noon.

Interment will follow in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Sumnerville.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, Cassopolis.
