Maylou Hossfeld, 65 / Jan. 12, 1945 — Dec. 24, 2010

Maylou Ann Hossfeld, 65, of Cobus Ridge, Granger, Ind. and formerly of Niles, died at 9:02 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at her home following an extended illness.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1945 in NIles to Lisle and Ellen (Theisen) Smith. She graduated from Niles High School and moved to Indiana in 1992.

She was employed at Penn-Harris-Madison Schools in South Bend and was named Driver of the Year in 2010.

The citation she received included the statement, “May is an angel on Earth and we are blessed to have her here. I look forward to seeing her each morning and she cares about the students as if they were her own children.”

She was also previously employed at National Standard Company and Simplicity Pattern both in Niles.

She was a member of Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles, enjoyed bazaars, craft shows and shopping for others.

On April, 4, 1964 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Niles, she married David Hossfeld, who survives.

She is also survived by their twin sons, David (Karen) Hossfeld of Oswego, Ill. and Daniel (Tracey) Hossfeld of Niles; grandchildren Sarah, Matthew, Christopher and Zarah and several nieces and nephews including Kathy and Jenny.

She was preceded in death by siblings Elvan Smith, Beverly Carlisle and Justin Smith.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Maylou Ann Hossfeld will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. Thomas King, C.S.C. of the church.

Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with recitation of the rosary at 5 p.m.
