SOUTH HAVEN — J.C. Haynes  85, of South Haven, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Silverbrook Manor Nursing Home in Niles.

J.C. was born April 16, 1924, in Sage, Ark., to Zela (White) and Alvin Haynes.
J.C. owned and operated a restaurant in Arkansas before moving to Michigan.

He resided in the South Haven area from 1946 to 1980.

While in South Haven, he worked as a cook at Ma’s Coffee Shop in downtown South Haven. He then worked as a construction truck driver.

J.C. liked cars, horses and music.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jamy Courtney, who died in 2008.
Surviving are: his sister, Maudie Walker of Dowagiac; one brother, Willie (Betty) Haynes of Bandera, Texas; one niece, Donna Courtney of Dowagiac; five nephews, Keith Haynes and Frank Courtney, both of Dowagiac, Tim Haynes of Frisco, Texas, Dan Haynes of Grand Haven and Brian Courtney of Nampa, Idaho.

Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 27, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Eric Jarvis officiating.
