Vera P. Gamso, 81, of Niles, died 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 at West Woods of Niles following an extended illness.

Vera was born Aug. 29, 1929 in Holland, Mich., to Edward Hindert and Edna (Falk) Hindert. She lived in Niles since 1955, coming from Holland, Mich.

She was a former employee of Michigan Bell in Holland. She was also previously employed at Sears and J.C. Penney Department Stores in the catalog department and at Tyler Refrigeration in food service. She enjoyed cooking and spending time on the internet.

On Sept. 1, 1950 in Holland, Mich., she married Robert Gamso, who died Jan. 3, 1999.

Surviving family includes son Robert A. (Jo Ellen) Gamso of Niles, daughter Kathleen (John) Gamso-Pozivilko of South Bend, Ind., five grandchildren, one great-grandson, sisters Rita Bazan of Holland, Mich., Joyce Rogers and Joan Kramer, both of Kalamazoo.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at Dykstra Funeral Home-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue, Holland, with Father Corey Stoppel of All Saints Episcopal Church of Saugatauk officiating. Interment will be at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland.

Friends may call beginning one hour prior to services at Dykstra Funeral Home. Local arrangements have been made by Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.

Memorial contributions to the Niles Community Library are preferred.
