John F. Yates, 67, of Sister Lakes, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, in Schererville, Ind.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mary Yates, and by his wife, Marianne Yates.

He is survived by: his sister, Joanne Ryba of Hobart, Ind.; nieces, Beth Brand of Hobart and Lori Stark of Indianapolis; nephew, Bryan Ryba of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and several cousins, grand nieces and nephews.

John retired after a lifetime of employment with the Illinois Central Railroad in Chicago.

He also served in the Army Reserves as an SP/5.

He enjoyed travel, spending time with friends and family and will be missed.

Visitation will be held at Yazel-Clark Chapel in Dowagiac on Friday, Nov. 19, from noon to 2 p.m., with services to follow.

In leiu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his name.
