Isabelle A. O’Brien, 92, of Dowagiac, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at her home.

Isabelle’s life began on Sept. 14, 1918, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Agnes (Kotowski) Lewandowski.

She was united in marriage to Bly O’Brien on April 26, 1947, in Chicago.

Isabelle was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church. Isabelle loved to can, work in her garden and she loved taking care of the animals on their farm.

Her loving family includes: her children, John O’Brien of Buchanan, Patricia (Robert) Franz of Dowagiac and Anne (David) Wilkinson of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Matthew (Mindy) O’Brien, Christina (Ryan) Gerkey, Andrea (Michael) Kincaid, Samantha (Michael) Clark, Elizabeth (Mark) Ferry, Carrie (Michael) Freeman, Kenny Franz, David (Shelley) Wilkinson, Maggie (Edward) Leyman and Scott Wilkinson; great-grandchildren, Noah J. Gerkey, Lucas R. Gerkey, Jonah T. Gerkey, Abram Clark, LaBella Clark, Caiden Freeman, Madelyn Wilkinson, Haylee Wilkinson and Marley Leyman; sisters-in- law Genevieve Willard  and  Estelle Tindall, both of Dowagiac; and numerous nieces and nephews. Isabelle is preceded in death by: her husband Bly in 2007; daughter-in-law, Candy O’Brien; sisters, Gertrude Bender and Rose Ball; and brother, Edwin Lewandowski.  Her family will gather with friends on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel, where there will be a Rosary prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church, led by Father Kevin Covert and Father Leo Taubitz. She will be laid to rest in South Wayne Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Borgess VNA and Hospice and American Heart Association.
