Lardner teams sweep

The Niles Ring Lardnerseventh and eighth grade football teams swept Dowagiac on Wednesday.

The seventh grade defeated the Chieftains 27-21, while the eighth grade defeated Dowagiac 39-15.

Seventh grade

Dowagiac had just 150 yards in total offense against Niles.

Josh Buckingham had a pair of touchdown runs for Ring Lardner (35, 40) and Vikings’ quarterback Joe Avance scored on runs of 62 and 70 yards.

Avance also went 3-of-4 in extra points.

Defensively, Derek Brown, Tyler Mahar, Zack Plummer, Chris Davis, Buckingham, Nick Larson, Ben Evans, Brandon Goodrich, Avance, Braulio Sosa and Cameron Vanderbuttes all played well.

Niles will host Benton Harbor in its next contest.

Eighth grade

Jason Pressley had 45 yards rushing for the Chieftains, while Rolly Lucio added 23 yards and a touchdown.

Matt Smith added seven yards and a touchdown.

Ray Glenn had touchdown runs of 40, 15 and 25 yards for the Vikings, who also got a 34-yard touchdown run from Warren Smith.

Alex Bata scored on runs of 11- and 2-yards.

Josh Dayhuff added three extra points.

Defensively for Niles, Sean Craig and Michael Marton both had interceptions.

Ted Jackowiak, Anthony Younger, Alex Celie, Cody Thornton, Wyatt Thornton and David Kennedy combined for several tackles for losses.

The Niles Gold team was defeated by Paw Paw on Tuesday night 40-12.

Trey Kles had a 60 yard touchdown run and Da’Quan Voight added a 50 yard scoring scamper.

Curtis Thomas had a 12-yard reception and defensive linemen Alex Kelly and Trey Moore both had tackles for losses.
