Henry Mathews, 80, of Cassopolis, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 at his home.

A lifelong resident of Cassopolis, he was born on Feb. 22, 1930 to Eli and Molly (Coker) Mathews. He served in the Army and later worked as a mechanic at Hayden-Beardslee Ford.

Henry married Charlene Hill on July 31, 1954 in Dowagiac. She survives, along with their five children, Ronnie (Georgia) Mathews of Cassopolis, Donnie Mathews of Avondale, Ga., Kathy (Chris) Brown of South Bend, Ind., Karen (James) Small of Stone Mountain, Ga. and Robert Mathews of Cassopolis; six grandchildren, Eddie Vinson of Cassopolis, Jason (La-Kesha) Small of Decatur, Ga., James (Shameka) Small II of Stone Mountain, Ga., Donnie Mathews II of Jacksonville, N.C., Calvin Hill of Cassopolis and Rickey Small of Stone Mountain, Ga.; 18 great-grandchildren; and lots of cousins.

Family and friends gathered Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. at Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway St., Cassopolis, with the Rev. Leozie Broadnax officiating.
