Janice’s life began on Nov. 28, 1942, in Benton Harbor, the daughter of Elwood and Aretta (Parritt) Dougan.

She united in marriage to Carl D. Shelby on Jan. 14, 1961, in Sodus.

Janice, 67, of Dowagiac, was a homemaker.

She was a member of Safe Harbor Church in Sodus and Dowagiac TOPS.

Her loving family includes: her husband of 49 years, Carl Shelby of Dowagiac; sons, Carl (Sherry) Shelby Jr. of Decatur and Jeffery (Roxanne) Shelby of Texas; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Janice passed away on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; her son, Donald Shelby in 2008;  and a brother, Everett Dougan.

Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel.

Graveside services will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Hamilton Cemetery in Decatur led by Pastor Don Parsons of Safe Harbor Church.

Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the donor’s choice of charity.
