STURGIS — Dowagiac varsity golf team kicked off its season Wednesday afternoon against host Sturgis at Klinger Lake Country Club.
The Lady Trojans, behind a 56 from medalist Ella Inman, defeated the Chieftains, 250-300.
Dowagiac was led by Haley and Lauren Smith. Both shot 70.
The Chieftains also got a 79 from Kaye Swartz, an 81 from Rickie Baker and an 85 from Jessica Caldwell.
Dowagiac was scheduled to play Niles today in its home opener, but that match has been postponed due to a course conflict.
