Dr. George Kufeldt, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 4, 1923, the son of Henry and Lydia Dorn Kufeldt.
In 1930, his family moved to Homestead, Fla., where he attended Redland Elementary and High School, graduating in 1941.

That fall he went to Anderson College (now Anderson University), Anderson, Ind.
He graduated in 1945 with the AB degree and in 1946 with the ThB degree.

After serving as pastor in Homestead, Fla., he returned to Anderson, where he earned the Master of Divinity degree from the School of Theology of Anderson University in 1950.
He received his PhD degree from Dropsie University, Philadelphia, Pa., in 1974.

He married Kathryn Rider in Anderson, Ind., on July 24, 1943, and to this union were born two daughters, Anita Kay (born Nov. 17, 1945) and Kristina Sue (born Oct. 21, 1947).

Kathryn died of a stroke on July 4, 1956.

He married Claudena Eller on June 21, 1957.

She died of cancer on Sept. 18, 1978.

He married Lydia Borgardt on Aug. 12, 1980.

She died of cancer on May 21, 2007.

Dr. Kufeldt began teaching Old Testament at the School of Theology of Anderson University, in September 1961 and retired after 29 years in 1990.

He was a member of Park Place Church of God for more than 50 years.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Benjamin and James, great-granddaughter, Leah Shelton, and a son-in-law, Jeffery Wayne Shelton.
He is survived by: his daughters, Anita Shelton of Silver Lake, Ind., and Kristina (James) Schmidt of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; granddaughters, Karen Schmidt, Lara Otto and Danielle Brock; grandsons, Douglas Schmidt, Brandon Schmidt and Jesse Shelton; great-granddaughters, Alexis, Kalissa and Olivia Otto, Ehlana Brock and Lydia Grace Shelton; great-grandson, Caleb Shelton; brothers, Dr. Walter (Doris) Kufeldt of Leesburg, Fla., and Edward (Kathy) Kufeldt of Alexandria, Va.; sisters, Esther (Robert) Crnkovich of Anderson, Ind., and Marie (Daniel) Jernigan of Findlay, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Anne Kufeldt of Louisiana; and many nephews and nieces.

Dr. Kufeldt was a life member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, headquartered in Lincoln, Neb.

His parents immigrated to the United States as children with their parents, settling in Chicago.

The family wants to thank the staff of Summit Convalescent Center for all their loving care during his last months.

Funeral services will be at Park Place Church of God on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. officiated by Drs. Arlo F. Newell and David Markle.

Burial will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, Aug. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson with one hour of visitation prior on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial contributions be made in honor of Dr. Kufeldt to the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia Lincoln or Anderson University School of Theology (student scholarships). E-mail condolences may be sent to RJFuneralSvc@AOL.com.
