Ardie Dailey, 89, of Dowagiac, passed away at 2 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Riveridge Manor in Niles.

Ardie was born in Louisville, Miss., on Sept. 16, 1920, to the union of Robert Lee and Shug (Woodard) Mitchell.

She accepted Christ at an early age in the Rockport Baptist Church in Mississippi. She was united in marriage to Robert Lee Dailey on Dec. 30, 1965, in Choctaw, Miss.

She moved to Michigan in 1965 and became a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until the Lord called her home.

She enjoyed helping people in her community and served on the nurse guild of the church and sang as a member of the church choir. She was “on call” to anyone in need. Her passion was being a mom, grandmother and a friend. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Dailey in 1991, her son Billy J. Brown, sisters Mildred and Jenny and brothers Cornelius and Esseymare.

Ardie leaves to rejoice in her memory: her sons. Bobbie Woodard of Goshen, Ind., Horace (Sandra) Woodard of Benton Harbor and Haskel (Deborah) Woodard of Dowagiac; her sister, Mattie Hanyard of Gary, Ind.; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, all cherishing her memory.

Her family will receive friends on Friday from noon until 1 p.m. at Second Baptist Church in Dowagiac led by officiating Pastor Tyrone Pace and eulogist Pastor Tonnie Blackamore.

She will be laid to rest at Mission Hills Cemetery, Niles.

Yazel and Clark Chapel is serving her family.
