Ann Katherine Fuessle passed away on her 91st birthday, Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines, Iowa.

She was born to Phillip and Amelia (Zeller) Holzer in Chicago, Ill., on Aug. 5, 1919.

On June 9, 1951, she married Eugene W. Fuessle.

They made their home in Dowagiac for 40 years and raised four daughters.

She was a homemaker, and also worked as the bookstore manager at Southwestern Michigan College for 20 years.

Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Sun City, Ariz.

Throughout her life, Ann was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac, the Federated Garden Clubs of America, the Dowagiac Woods Nature Sanctuary committee, the Michiana Wheelers bicycling club and the National Audubon Society.

She also attended First United Methodist Church and participated in ballroom dancing, craft and bowling groups in Sun City during her retirement years.

Ann is survived by: three daughters, Jeanne (Mark) Fencl of Chandler, Ariz., Joanne Manternach of Urbandale, Iowa, and Sally (William) Anderson of Hancock, Mich.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Susan A. Ballou and her six brothers and sisters.

No visitation will be held. A memorial service is being planned for Oct. 16 in Dowagiac.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Nature Association for the Dowagiac Woods Nature Sanctuary and Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.
