April Sue Mason, 24, of 1001 Birch St., Niles died at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend following a brief illness.

She was born April 16, 1986 in South Bend to Serita Ann Mason. April graduated from Niles High School in 2005, and lived here most of her life.

She was employed at the Niles Wendy’s for three years. April was active in Girl Scouts in elementary school. She most recently enjoyed playing computer games, “Facebooking” with friends and listening to music on her iPod. Her family and friends were the most important part of her life.

Her boyfriend, Dennis, helped with all her medical care, and they watched special television shows together. April loved to play with her sisters and help around the house.

April overcame a severely premature birth and a kidney transplant at age 16 to live a full, happy life, caring for everyone she met.

She is survived by her mother, Serita Mason, of Niles; sisters, twins Desiree and Jasmine Love, of Niles; her boyfriend, Dennis Phillips; maternal grandparents, Barbara and George C. Hatfield, of Chillicothe, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Bill “Scotter” and Shirley Mason, of Niles; uncle, Bill (Missy) Mason Jr.; aunts, Cherrie (Jeff) Strausbaugh and Carrie Mason; and lifelong friends, Tracy, Sandy and Travis Wirick.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church, Niles with the Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be at The Columbarium-First Presbyterian Church, Niles.

Friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Arrangements were made at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
