City paying Laymon note early, before demolition

At the request of Bernie Laymon, the city will be paying the promissory note off on the former Dowagiac Glass property at the next City Council meeting instead of the Oct. 17, 2010, date specified in the contract, according to City Manager Kevin Anderson.

The reason for this is that she would be more comfortable receiving payment in full prior to the building being demolished.

“This is a reasonable request,” he said.

Also, she indicated she will come to the next City Council meeting to present her abstract of title to City Clerk James Snow for permanent records.

She indicates that the abstract outlines a long history of a wide variety of uses for that building and she wants the historical record to be preserved.
