A Cassopolis man was injured in a crash Friday afternoon in Penn Township.

Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reports that on Friday at 1:45 p.m., his office responded to a personal injury crash that occurred on Penn Road, near Fox Street, in Penn Township, Cass County.

Christopher Abel, 37, of Cassopolis was traveling southbound on Penn Road when he attempted to pass a commercial vehicle with its trailer parked on the roads edge unloading farm equipment. Abel failed to clear the trailer while passing and crashed into it.

He was transported to Borgess Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment; all others on scene were uninjured.

Seat belts appear to have been in use and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Assisting the sheriff’s office were Penn Township Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance.

This case remains under investigation.
