Leo’s life began on July 1, 1941, in Canton, Miss., the son of Percy and Arqullia (Luckett) Brooks.

He was united in marriage to the former Maivera Lacy on Aug. 31, 1975, in Dowagiac.
Leo was employed by Jessup Door Co. in Dowagiac.

He was a member of Peace Temple Church of God in Christ and he loved to barbecue.
His loving family includes: his wife, Maivera Brooks of Dowagiac; his children, Patricia (John) Drake of Dowagiac, Gregory L. (Tammy) Lee of Benton Harbor, Dyer (Eric) Upchurch of Milwaukee, Vernard Lee of Atlanta, Lincoln Lee of Dowagiac, Ronald (Sharmekia) Lee of Dowagiac, Calvin (Ruth) Brooks of Joliet, Ill., Arqullia (Brent) Towers of Portage, Leola (James) Boatright of St. Louis, Leo (Heather) Brooks of Dowagiac, Joshua (Tiffany) Brooks of Dowagiac, Maivera Brooks of Dowagiac and Jeremiah (Shirley) Brooks of Dowagiac; 43 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; brothers, Lonnie, Alvin, Calvin and Tommy Brooks, all of Canton; and sisters, Nettie (Clarence) Washington, Mary Louise Brooks, Dannette (Mozell) Nichols and Annette Brooks, all of Canton, Dorothy Allen of Dowagiac and Ethel Brooks of Detroit.

Leo, 69, of Portage, formerly of Dowagiac, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2010, at home.
He is preceded in death by: two children, Willie T. Lee and Rebecca Lee; a brother, Johnny Brooks; and sisters, Percy Lee Brooks, Lena Mae Luckett and Helen Jean Travis.

Leo’s family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Peace Temple Church of God in Christ, where his home going services will be at 1 p.m. led by Elder Hatcher.

He will be laid to rest in Mission Hills Cemetery, Niles.
