A 15-year-old Buchanan boy was cited for failing to yield after a three-vehicle accident early Thursday night in Niles Township sent several people to the hospital.
According to Lt. Randy Miller of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, the teen was driving a tan Chevy four-door with a 49-year-old Buchanan female and a teen passenger when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto South 11th Street from Chestnut Lane.
The driver turned in front of a green Dodge Ram pickup, driven by a 53-year-old Niles man, heading northbound on South 11th Street.
The pickup then collided with a third vehicle, a green Toyota Camry sitting facing west on Chestnut Lane, Miller said.
All occupants of the pickup and Chevy were transported with minor injuries by Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service to Lakeland Hospital in Niles. The driver of the Camry was uninjured.
Miller said he believes the pickup and Chevy are not drivable. Airbags were deployed on both vehicles.
The driver of the Chevy had a driver’s permit, Miller said.
The Michigan State Police and Niles Charter Township Fire Department assisted in the investigation and with traffic control.
